This is hands down the best show I’ve seen all Summer. It is actually so good, that I doubt I will see a better musical this year. Trevor Nunn’s masterpiece is a beautiful piece of work with a heartwarming story, lovable characters, absolutely stunning vocals and flawless production values. The set is small but intimate, and the Playhouse Theatre is a perfect venue. Andy Nyman is brilliant as Teyve, an old fashioned Jewish man who is learning that the world around him is changing faster than he is willing to accept, and not always for the better. Had no idea Anita Dobson was in this, she’s amazing!Read more →

Always forget what a warm show this is. My vague memory made me think it might be dated for #timesup but actually it's pretty timeless, with feisty daughters all prevailing, despite the nonsense patriarchy. The set was amazing, all performances really solid, Andy Nyman great as Tevye, although Judy Kuhn's Golde (discreetly) stood out for me. Most enjoyed the choreography which managed to be folky&charming&exciting (espesh the bottle dance) made all the more impressive in the small space. Trevor Nunn has a gift for compressing big shows: lovely way to understand more about 'traditionnn' 📕Read more →

Works really well on the open air stage where the cast is often sitting on the sidelines observing the action. The sound is good as is the choreography. The fiddler plays a much more key role than is usual and it works, although I was less convinced by his being replaced on the roof by Chava with clarinet in the finale. Not all the roles have the vocal chops for some of the songs, but towering over them is Dannheiser as a sensational Tevye. All in all, a triumph and be prepared to wipe a few tears away!Read more →

For me, I just didn’t enjoy the show, there were some good parts but I was left feeling quite underwhelmed. The staging was brilliant however and I couldn’t fault the singing, unfortunately the show just didn’t ‘click’ for me.Read more →

Andy Nyman (Tevye) gives a beautiful performance, as well as the rest of the cast, that do the original lyric and book such justice. An emotional, heartfelt, funny, and memorable night out at the theater.Read more →
