Adapted from Gregory Maguire's celebrated 1995 novel, Wicked delves into the unlikely alliance between Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda (later known as Glinda, the Good Witch). Their journey commences well before Dorothy's iconic entrance, when Elphaba and Glinda cross paths at university. Amidst their contrasting personalities, the two roommates form an unexpected bond, while the mystical forces of Oz conspire to steer each girl towards her inevitable fate. The Story Unfolds: Origins and Evolution
Wicked re-imagines the Land of Oz, creating a parallel universe to the familiar story of L. Frank Baum’s beloved characters from 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' - telling the incredible story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two young women.
Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good, and The Wicked Witch of the West.
One of the longest-running shows in the West End, the Oliver award-winning Wicked recently celebrated its 6500th performance at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The jaw-dropping spectacular has since been described by the BBC as “A major hit with audiences and critics alike” and “an amazing success”.
Behind the Scenes: Crafting the Spectacle
Stephen Schwartz’s original music and lyrics for Wicked — featuring smash hits like Defying Gravity, Popular, For Good, and The Wizard and I — won the Grammy for Best Musical Show Album in 2005. Internationally, the musical has won three Tony awards and seven Drama Desk awards, as well as being named the “Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly.
The West End and Broadway musical sensation is already the 11th longest running show in London theatre history. Winner of over 100 major awards, including three Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and ten theatregoer-voted WhatsOnStage Awards (winning ‘Best West End Show’ on three separate occasions), the iconic musical has already been seen by over 12 million people in London alone and played almost 6500 performances.
Stepping into the ruby slippers made famous by the likes of Idina Menzel and Kerry Ellis, Emma Kingston takes on the iconic role of Elphaba. With ZiZi Strallen in the role of Glinda.
Rounding out the rest of the cast of Wicked in the West End is Carl Man as Fiyero, Sarah Ingram as Madame Morrible, Michael Matus as the Wizard of Oz, Hannah Quershi as Nessarose, Ross Carpenter as Boq, and David McKechnie as Doctor Dillamond.

Wicked takes place at the Apollo Victoria Theatre every Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm with matinee performances at 2.30pm every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday Evening performances finish around 10.15pm and matinee performances finish around 5.15pm.
